Guru Rewben enthralls audience at North East Festival

Renowned Tangkhul folk singer and Padma Shri awardee, Guru Rewben Mashangva, captivated the audience with his soul-stirring folk music on the fourth day of the North East Dance and Music Festival at Manipuri Jagoi Marup Golden Jubilee Stage in Imphal. The five-day festival, organized by Rhythms of Manipur, has been celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the region.
With his signature rustic charm, Guru Rewben performed three mesmerizing numbers, including the traditional “Phoushu Eshei,” while sharing the fascinating background of the song, adding depth to his performance.
Adding to the evening’s brilliance, Rhythms of Manipur presented two fusion compositions, one of which was the beloved State Song of Manipur, “Sanaleibak Manipur.” The fusion performances blended traditional and contemporary elements, showcasing the evolving musical landscape of the region.
The Deputy Director (Art), Directorate of Art and Culture, Nagaland, Mr. Kikrulhunyu Paphino, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his brief address, he praised Rhythms of Manipur for its outstanding portrayal of dance and music through innovative compositions. Impressed by the performance, he expressed his desire to extend an invitation for a future performance in Nagaland.
As the festival approaches its grand finale tomorrow, the concluding day will feature a performance by promising folk singer, Thongam Loijingkhombi. She is set to present two enchanting pieces—”Yaipel Seithaba” and “Lashing Lei Seithaba”—composed by the renowned Oja Goshe Meitei.
