Kamjong, Jan 29:
A fierce gunfight between Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and suspected PLA cadres continues for the third consecutive day near Border Pillar No. 87 in Yaingoupk/Wangli village, Kamjong district, close to the Indo-Myanmar border.
Reports indicate that the clashes erupted near Namlee Village after KNA-B cadres launched attacks on a Manipur-based rebel group at multiple locations along the border. On January 27, at least 22 KNA-B cadres were suspected to have been killed, with the rebel group reportedly recovering 14 sophisticated weapons from the deceased.
The violence intensified today, with 9 more KNA-B cadres reportedly killed in fresh gunbattles, and another 8 sophisticated weapons recovered. Sources suggest that the encounters have also spread to areas near New Kotha Khunou village in Kamjong district, further escalating tensions along the border.
Unofficial estimates indicate that the casualty count on the KNA-B side may have reached around 31 over the past three days. Some of the bodies recovered reportedly had Aadhaar cards listing addresses from Kangpokpi and Churachandpur.
The situation remains tense, with no official confirmation from security forces yet on the exact number of casualties. Further updates are awaited.
