Imphal, Aug 18:
Fierce gunbattle between armed groups was reported early today morning near Thouwai Kuki Village in Ukhrul district.
The incident occurred around 5 am. and lasted for around 3 hours. Thouwai Kuki is a village inhabited by Kuki tribals and located around 47 km from Ukhrul district headquarter.
Three individuals were reported killed in the gun battle. There are no reports of injuries, a police source said.
The deceased has been identified as Jamkhogin Haokip (26), Thangkhokai Haokip (35), and Hollenson Baite (24).
Security measures have been tightened following the incident. State police and the Indian Army have started conducting search operations.
No organisation has so far claimed responsibility for the gun fight.
