The Federation of Civil Society Organisations, Manipur (FOCS), observed ‘Aniraksuba 3/5 Ningshing Numit’ today at Yumnam Khunou Community Hall in Khundrakpam, Imphal East. Held under the theme “Bridging Divides for Shared Future,” the event focused on fostering unity and reflecting on the ongoing challenges facing Manipur’s diverse communities.
The programme commenced with the arrival of dignitaries, followed by a floral tribute and lengyan presentation. A welcome address was delivered by Laitonjam (o) Ashalata, a member of the organising committee, followed by a keynote address from Rakesh Moirangthem, convener of the organising committee.
Speakers from Churachandpur, Moreh, Kangpokpi, and Ikou participated in the event, offering their insights on the current situation in the state. Irenbam Rojita Leima, representing the Meitei internally displaced persons (IDPs), also spoke, highlighting the continued hardships faced by displaced families.
Dr. R.K. Nimai, retired IAS officer, addressed the gathering as the resource person, providing a critical perspective on the political and administrative aspects of the crisis. He stressed the importance of inclusive dialogue and the role of civil society in peace-building.
Presidium members included BM Yaima Shah, Acting President of FOCS and Chairman of the Organising Committee, who delivered the speech of the functional president. Other presidium members were Haopu Kom, President of Kom Tribe Union (Valley), Dr. K. Heera Kabui, President of Kabui Union, Manipur, Julia Shinglai, former AMSU member, M.L. Medun Maring, President of Maring Catholic Congress, R.K. Philip, President of Thangal Union, and Abdul Hakim, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, D.M.U. Manipur.
