FOCS condemns assault on Manipur Police Commandos, Calls for Government action

Imphal, Mar 10:

The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur has issued a strong condemnation following the circulation of a viral video depicting Manipur Police Commandos being forcibly driven away by members of the Kuki community, including physical altercation.
In a press release, FOCS asserted that the recent actions of the Kuki women were perceived as a strategic move aimed at establishing a separate territory for illegal immigrants, using women as tools, and undermining the morale of the State force stationed at the border town. It was noted that there have been notifications from an illegal immigrant group prohibiting the sale of goods to the State force, leaving them with limited access to essential items and medicines. Despite these challenges, the State force has remained steadfast in defending the territorial integrity.
The press release also condemned the brutal assault and burning of vehicles belonging to two Meitei Pangal individuals who were reportedly supplying stone chips for a construction project at IB Moreh. They were accused of assisting the Manipur State Police.
FOCS urged the state government to empower the State Force responsible for maintaining law and order at Moreh, in order to bolster their morale. They also called for swift punitive action against those responsible for the physical assault on the two Meitei Pangal individuals.
