In a tragic incident amid the ongoing flood crisis in Manipur, a 41-year-old flood victim and volunteer, who had been actively involved in rescue operations, passed away while taking shelter at a relief camp. The deceased, identified as Kambam Nailkumar Singh, son of Kambam Nabachandra Singh of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, died yesterday evening after a strenuous day helping other flood-affected families in his locality.
Kambam Nailkumar Singh, who was serving as a Peon in the CAF & PD Department, Government of Manipur, was staying at the relief camp opened at the Community Hall in Khurai Chingangbam Leikai. Reports stated that he had been actively volunteering in rescue missions throughout the day, assisting families in distress due to the rising water levels.
After completing his meal in the evening, he reportedly took rest. Around 5:50 pm, fellow camp residents noticed him struggling to breathe and rushed him to RIMS Hospital. Despite receiving medical attention, doctors were unable to save him. As per the death certificate issued by RIMS, he died of Aspiration Pneumonia and Altered Sensorium under Evaluation.
Due to the flood situation, his body could not be cremated immediately and was kept at the RIMS morgue overnight. He was cremated today at the Lamlong Crematorium.
Late Kambam Nailkumar Singh is survived by his wife, K. Sanathoi Devi, and three children — two daughters and a son. His untimely demise has cast a shadow of grief over the relief camp and the flood-affected community, where he was remembered for his selfless service in the face of adversity.
