Following the filing of an FIR by Chin-Kuki-Zo civil society organisations (CSOs) in Churachandpur, the Federation of Haomee has issued a firm response defending its previous statements that referred to Kukis as “refugees.” The federation maintained its position, citing what it claims to be official documents as evidence.
The FIR, lodged by various Kuki CSOs, accuses the Federation of Haomee of making inflammatory remarks and promoting social discord by describing Kukis as refugees. In response, the federation convened a press conference today, during which it displayed transaction records that it claims show the release of refugee relief funds to Kuki individuals and organisations by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
“These records clearly reflect that financial assistance earmarked for refugees was received by members of the Kuki community,” said Sapamcha Jadumani, President of FoH. He added, “Our statements are based on these facts, and there is no malicious intent behind them. We believe the public deserves to know the truth.”
The Federation criticised the FIR as an attempt to silence public discussion and discourage voices highlighting what it called historical and administrative realities.
“Trying to use legal pressure won’t change what is already documented,” the spokesperson remarked.
The controversy continues to draw attention as both sides hold firm to their narratives. Meanwhile, calls for restraint and responsible dialogue are growing, as tensions surrounding identity and historical interpretation remain sensitive in Manipur’s multi-ethnic landscape.
