ELCCA rejects German Road through Naga territories

The Eastern Liangmai Chief/Chairman Association (ELCCA) in a press release has strongly opposed the proposed construction of the so-called “German Road” or “Tiger Road” connecting Kangpokpi to Churachandpur through Naga ancestral territories. The statement was issued in response to what the association described as a “wishlist” of the Kuki community.
The ELCCA asserted that there is no such road—past, present, or future—recognized as German, Tiger, or Lion Road within their ancestral land. The names, it stated, are fabricated and bear no legitimacy in Naga history, tradition, or land records. It further warned that any attempt to impose such infrastructure projects within Naga territory would be viewed as an act of aggression and a blatant provocation. Any forceful or deceitful effort to intrude into Naga ancestral domain under the guise of development, the release warned, would be met with unrelenting resistance.
The association cautioned that such actions risk sparking widespread unrest and violence in the region, holding those who ignore the warning fully responsible for the consequences.
Calling upon the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to act with urgency and wisdom, the ELCCA stated that supporting or permitting the so-called Kuki “wish list” would amount to endorsing territorial encroachment and could severely damage inter-community relations in the region. The association urged the Government of India to ensure that no infrastructure project under any name or pretext violates the territorial sanctity of Naga lands.
For lasting peace and security, the ELCCA also demanded the immediate dismantling of all Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps of Kuki militant groups located near Naga-inhabited areas. It claimed that these camps are a constant source of intimidation and insecurity for their people.
The press release concluded by stating that the Eastern Liangmai people are a peace-loving community but will not remain passive in the face of deceit, provocation, or occupation. It declared their intent to defend their land by all means necessary.
