Imphal, May 6:
BJP National Spokesperson and North East In-Charge, Dr. Sambit Patra, who arrived in Imphal on Sunday, continued his engagements in Manipur on Monday with a visit to Kangpokpi District, following high-level meetings with key political leaders and legislators of the state.
After visiting Churachandpur on Monday and holding separate meetings with MLAs Vungzagin Valte and LM Khaute, Dr. Patra also met with former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, MLA Y. Khemchand, and several other BJP legislators in Imphal. His visit comes amid ongoing tensions and political instability in the state.
In Kangpokpi, Dr. Patra held a closed-door meeting with local BJP MLA Nemcha Kipgen at her residence in the district headquarters. While the contents of their discussion remain undisclosed, the meeting is seen as part of the BJP leadership’s effort to assess the situation on the ground and consult with local representatives. Dr. Patra departed for New Delhi at 1 pm following the engagement.
Later in the day, the BJP leader interacted with civil society leaders and tribal representatives at the 112 CRPF Camp in Kangpokpi. He met with members of the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), SAHILCA, KWU Sadar Hills, and other tribal organizations. Although official details of the discussions were not released, sources from CoTU disclosed that Dr. Patra called on community leaders to contribute towards restoring peace, normalcy, and the safe movement of people along National Highway 2.
During the meeting, CoTU submitted a three-page memorandum to Dr. Patra, articulating the urgent concerns of the Kuki-Zo community. The document raised issues of security threats, political marginalization, the demand for a separate administration, and calls for justice and rehabilitation. The memorandum warned that the survival and dignity of the Kuki-Zo people are at risk unless decisive action is taken.
Dr. Patra’s visit is seen as a crucial step in the BJP’s efforts to engage with stakeholders in Manipur’s ongoing crisis and to seek inputs for a potential resolution path. There has been no official statement from the BJP leadership regarding the outcomes of the visit so far.
