The Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) has strongly condemned the statement issued by the Chief Secretary of the Government of Manipur that was reiterated during a press conference held in Imphal on May 29. In a press release, the DMCC called upon the leadership of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) to continue the ongoing Civil Disobedience Movement until the core, non-negotiable demands of the people are fulfilled.
The DMCC outlined the following key demands: a public apology from the Governor of Manipur, and the resignation of the Security Advisor, the Director General of Police (DGP), and the Chief Secretary.
Hijam Rajen, Media Advisor of the DMCC, in a strongly worded statement, also condemned the recent political move by 44 MLAs who have now come forward to claim the formation of a government—eight days after what the DMCC describes as an “assault on Manipur’s identity.” The DMCC criticized these MLAs for their prolonged silence and failure to speak against the Governor or the Central Government, stating that their sudden appearance was “merely in response to rising public anger.” According to the statement, these MLAs have proven to be “incompetent and indifferent to the suffering and sentiments of the people,” acting only on directives from the “Delhi High Command.”
The statement went on to express strong disapproval of the Chief Secretary’s attempt to “mislead and deceive” the public. The phrase “deeply regretted,” used in the official response to recent protests, was deemed “unacceptable and insufficient”—especially as it came ten days after large-scale public demonstrations during which several women protestors were reportedly injured due to police action against the Meira Paibi.
The DMCC also voiced outrage over the removal of the word “Manipur” from the signage of the Manipur State Transport Corporation (MSTC) by security forces. The group described the act as “a blatant attack on the identity and dignity of the state and its people,” asserting that it represents a “symbolic erasure” of Manipur’s name and existence. The DMCC demanded strong condemnation and immediate corrective measures.
Citing a meeting held on May 21, 2025, between Meira Paibi leaders led by Image Meira and the Security Advisor of Manipur, the DMCC said that the deployment and actions of security forces were reportedly based on decisions taken during a security meeting chaired by the Governor. The DGP, Security Advisor, and Chief Secretary were all said to be present at this meeting.
Furthermore, the DMCC confirmed that it had held an informal meeting with representatives of COCOMI on May 27, 2025, at the Press Club of India in New Delhi, following COCOMI’s engagement with the Ministry of Home Affairs. The DMCC appreciated COCOMI’s leadership in confronting what it called “the recent assault on the people of Manipur by security forces” and pledged full support for the ongoing Civil Disobedience Agitation, reiterating its endorsement of COCOMI’s key demands.
