Imphal, Jan 15:

Students from the five constituent colleges of DM University – DM College of Arts, DM College of Science, DM College of Commerce, GP Women’s College, and LMS Law Colleges – staged a protest by shouting slogans against the university authorities. They expressed their discontent over the failure to conduct the students’ union election for the year 2023-24. Both postgraduate and undergraduate students argued that the university’s neglect to hold the election was a blatant violation of their rights.
Irom Dimocha, a student of DMU, spoke to the media and stated that if the democratic rights of the students were suppressed by the University, both the students of DMU and the colleges under it would continue their agitation. He warned that if the DMU authority did not issue a notification for the Students’ Union election within three days, the students would launch a protest by shutting down the DMU.
Subsequently, the students locked the Administrative block and chanted slogans, demanding the removal of the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar of the University.
