DGAR flags off cycle expedition

Maj Gen V S Sreenivas, VSM**, IG, Assam Rifles (South) flagged off DGAR Cycling Expedition today at the Headquarters of IGAR (South) at Mantripukhri in presence of eminent Military Commanders and civil Govt Officials and other civil luminaries.
The Expedition was organised to commemorate the 181st Raising Day of Assam Rifles scheduled on 24 March 2016. Assam Rifles contribution to North East is synonymous with the history of North East where it has been relentlessly pursuing various cultural and adventure activities to bring in visible changes in the overall development of the North Eastern States.  In fact the Assam Rifles has emerged as an indispensable bridge between the civil administration and the local population by contributing immensely  in the fields of education, training, public works, agriculture, transportation, communication, health, sanitation etc, thereby contributing to overall economic and social development.
The Cycle expedition team from Manipur, comprising of Assam Rifles units under  IGAR (South), will marry up with the team from IGAR (North) at Kohima before they proceed towards HQ DGAR at Shillong, covering a total distance of 540 kms. 
In addition to displaying their spirit of adventure, the Cycling Team from IGAR (South), living up to the Assam Rifles Credo of “Sentinels of North East – Friends of Hill People”, will spread the message of Peace and Harmony and shall also conduct various awareness campaigns focused on the Govt’s ‘Swachh Bharat’, Beti Bachao and Jan Dhan Yojna programmes.  Lectures and informative talks at towns and villages enroute would be a highlight of the cycle expedition.
