The Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur has distributed a total of 93,472 bags of neem-coated urea to farmers across all 16 districts of the state under a special campaign conducted from June 16 to June 25, 2025. The urea was distributed at a subsidised rate of Rs. 270 per bag across 54 designated locations.
In addition to the main campaign, the Department also organised special distribution camps in three fringe areas affected by law-and-order disturbances. At these camps, both urea and paddy seeds were provided to farmers to help them continue agricultural activities amid ongoing challenges.
Peter Salam, Director of Agriculture, informed our reporter at the Department’s office located at Sanjenthong that the initiative was launched with the aim of reaching farmers who were unable to access fertilisers during the past year due to unrest and disruptions. He added that farmers in these vulnerable regions were given priority through the additional camps.
The Department further stated that urea distribution will continue through the respective District Agriculture Officers (DAOs). Special camps will also be held in areas that could not be covered during the initial campaign period. The dates and locations for these additional camps will be announced shortly.
Peter Salam appealed to all farmers and farmer groups or associations to extend support and cooperation to ensure that every farmer in Manipur has access to essential fertilisers in a timely manner.
