Delimitation should be based on an accurate census report: MLA Kh. Ibomcha

Imphal, April 3:

Lamlai AC MLA Kh. Ibomcha has stated that delimitation should be carried out based on a census report free from irregularities. Addressing a gathering at Nityaipat Chuthek, he emphasized that conducting delimitation with inaccurate facts and figures is unacceptable and that the BJP Manipur Pradesh has always opposed such measures.
MLA Ibomcha expressed concerns over the increase in the number of voters in Manipur’s electoral roll. He warned that if the matter is not thoroughly examined, the delimitation process may not be just and fair. He urged the Centre to take stringent measures to identify individuals who have entered and settled illegally from neighboring countries.
He also pointed out that the issue is being politically exploited by the BJP, despite the party having passed an act in both houses of Parliament to regulate foreigners. Meanwhile, discussions are reportedly underway among BJP MLAs and 13 members from various sections, including BJP office bearers, regarding the formation of a delimitation committee.
Additionally, BJP General Secretary (Admin) K. Sarat highlighted that the Supreme Court had issued directives concerning the delimitation process for three states—Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur. While the process has already commenced in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, he noted that due to irregularities in Manipur’s current census report and demographic changes, further scrutiny is required before moving forward.
Sarat further stated that the nationwide delimitation scheduled for 2026 will be conducted only after rectifying the discrepancies in the census data. He affirmed that the BJP will push for delimitation to be implemented in a manner that neutralizes the current demographic imbalance in the state.
