Curtain-Raiser for Manipuri Poetry Day 2024 held at St. Joseph University, Nagaland

The Department of English at St. Joseph University, a private Catholic university in Chumoukedima, Nagaland, organized an event to mark “Manipuri Poetry Day (Manipuri Sheireng Numit), 2024.” The program, which began at 10:00 AM, served as a curtain-raiser for the official Manipuri Poetry Day celebration, scheduled for October 17, 2024, coinciding with Mera’s Full Moon Day.
Dr. Thokchom Sunanda Devina, Head of the Department of English, chaired the event, during which students from various departments participated by reciting poems. In her address, Dr. Sunanda Devi highlighted that the Department has been consistently organizing this event annually, with this year’s celebration continuing the tradition of honoring Manipuri poetry.
Students presented poems on a range of themes, contributing to the program with enthusiasm. They also acknowledged the significance of Manipuri Poetry Day in promoting the rich heritage of Manipuri language and literature, emphasizing its role in preserving and celebrating the region’s literary tradition.
