CRPF constable dies by suicide at Motbung camp

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable undergoing pre-induction training allegedly died by suicide inside a CRPF camp at Motbung in Kangpokpi district yesterday morning, police said.

The deceased was identified as Vineet Singh, a native of Purvabajirao village in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh. He was attached to F/112 Battalion, CRPF, and was undergoing pre-induction training with C/122 Company at the Motbung camp under the jurisdiction of Sapermeina Police Station.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 8 am, when the constable allegedly used his issued INSAS service rifle to shoot himself under the chin inside the camp.

On receiving information, a police team visited the spot and initiated legal proceedings. An unnatural death case has been registered at Sapermeina Police Station under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and other legal formalities, while police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.

The motive behind the alleged suicide remains unknown, and further investigation is in progress.
