Imphal, Sept 18:

The Congress party has raised serious concerns over a viral document, reportedly signed by the Chief Minister’s Secretary, N. Geoffrey, claiming that 900 highly trained Kuki militants have entered Manipur. K. Devabrata Singh, Working President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, addressed the media, stressing the need for an immediate clarification on the document’s authenticity.
Devabrata Singh pointed out that while the document has been published in the media, there are conflicting reports suggesting the news might be fake. He urged the authorities to clarify the matter, calling for an inquiry to determine its legitimacy. If the document is proven fake, he demanded that the individual responsible for spreading misinformation be arrested.
Devabrata Singh also referenced recent violence, including a drone bombing in Koutruk that killed a woman and rocket attacks in Moirang that left another person dead. He emphasized the need for Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to address these escalating security issues.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, marking 100 days of the BJP government at the center, reiterated that illegal immigration is the root cause of the conflict, echoing earlier remarks by the Chief Minister at the foundation day celebration of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union. Amit Shah also mentioned ongoing dialogue with leaders from both sides, but President MPCC has criticized the lack of transparency, calling for clarity on who is involved in the discussions. There should be clarity on the matter, he added.
Devabrata Singh also stated that even though BJP has claimed that the violent crisis in Manipur will be solved in the first 100 days but there is nothing going on in that direction.
He further pointed to the involvement of foreign elements, citing the arrest of a KNA(B) cadre and the use of sophisticated weapons by Kuki militants. He urged Amit Shah to address the issue of foreign arms supply and provide details on the source of these weapons. He questioned that whether the home department in the state has not informed the Home Ministry at the center.
