The Farmers’ Wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has informed that a public meeting will be held on June 9, 2025, at 12:30 PM at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, to discuss the challenges faced by farmers due to the continuing crisis since May 3, 2023.
The announcement came following a State Level Monitoring Committee meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary (Agriculture), Government of Manipur, held at the Secretariat South Conference Hall. The meeting was reported to have been attended by officials including the Director of Agriculture, the Inspector General of Police, Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from various districts, Chief Engineers of departments such as Water Resources, Minor Irrigation, and DADA, along with the convenor and co-convenor of COCOMI Farmers’ Wing, and several farmer representatives.
It was stated that the meeting reviewed the approaching kharif 2025 season and highlighted concerns over disrupted cultivation, agricultural insecurity, and the lack of compensation for farmers who were unable to engage in farming during 2024.
Officials were said to have discussed measures to provide timely distribution of seeds, fertilizers, and other necessary inputs, especially targeting the Red Zone areas, which were identified as severely affected. The Director of Agriculture and District Agriculture Officers (DAOs) were reportedly urged to ensure that these distributions happen without delay.
According to COCOMI’s Farmers’ Wing, the continuous hardship faced by the farming community for two consecutive years required immediate attention. The upcoming meeting was said to be aimed at uniting affected individuals and communities to collectively decide on future steps to address their ongoing struggles.
Farmers and others impacted by the crisis were encouraged to attend the June 9 meeting and actively participate in the discussions.
