Imphal, Oct 23:
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today announced a series of significant development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and providing substantial aid to the displaced individuals affected by the ongoing crisis in Manipur. Speaking at a press conference at the CM Secretariat, Imphal, the Chief Minister highlighted the comprehensive efforts being undertaken by both central and state authorities to ensure full-time relief for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), especially those currently sheltering in educational institutions.
“Construction of 7,000 houses has been approved for Manipur, with priority being given to displaced individuals,” the Chief Minister stated. In addition, he announced that Rs. 4 lakh has been allocated to support the rehabilitation of IDPs, signaling a proactive approach to restoring normalcy for affected communities.
The CM detailed a range of development projects set to commence in the coming months. Among the most notable was the approval of a football stadium project worth Rs. 220 crore, which is expected to receive final approval soon. This stadium, once completed, will not only promote sports but also serve as a symbol of hope and regeneration for Manipur.
In a bid to support IDPs during the upcoming Ningol Chakouba and Diwali festivals, the Chief Minister announced a special relief package, with Rs. 1,000 to be given to each inmate in relief camps. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing support to ease the burden on displaced families during these culturally significant occasions.
Addressing financial concerns, Singh reassured government employees that pending salaries and pensions would be released by October 31. This announcement comes as a relief to many, as the timely disbursement of funds has been a growing concern. The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to meeting its financial obligations and maintaining the state’s economic stability.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister unveiled plans for the construction of Rs. 175 crore worth of concrete roads covering 8 kilometers in district headquarters across the state. This infrastructure upgrade aims to improve connectivity and boost economic activity in both rural and urban areas.
In addition to the housing and infrastructure initiatives, the central government has approved the construction of 7,000 homes specifically for displaced individuals. This is seen as a significant move towards alleviating the housing crisis for those affected by the violence and instability that erupted in the state earlier this year.
CM N. Biren Singh’s announcements reflect the government’s multi-pronged strategy to address both immediate relief needs and long-term infrastructure development, underscoring efforts to rebuild Manipur amidst challenging times.
