Cleanliness drive conducted at Kekrupat ahead of Great June Uprising, Unity Day

In a collective show of respect and remembrance, volunteers from various civil society organisations and student bodies conducted a cleanliness drive at Kekrupat today, ahead of the observance of the Great June Uprising, Unity Day.
Members of IPSA, PANDAM, KILL, ACOAM Lup, KANGLAMEI, KSA, MIKL, ANDOK, LOYALUP, ERDO, SWA, CLK, and AKSHIL participated in the initiative. The drive was carried out as part of preparations to mark the solemn occasion on June 18, which commemorates the 2001 uprising in Manipur following the extension of the ceasefire agreement between the NSCN-IM and the Government of India “without territorial limits.”
The 2001 protest, triggered by widespread fears over Manipur’s territorial integrity, saw massive public outrage and led to the deaths of at least 18 individuals, who were later cremated at Kekrupat. The site has since become a symbol of unity and resistance for the people of Manipur.
The cleanliness drive aimed not only to maintain the sanctity of the memorial site but also to honour the sacrifices made during the historic uprising. Organisers reiterated the significance of remembering the events of June 18 and called for unity among the people in safeguarding the territorial and cultural integrity of Manipur.
