Several prominent civil society organisations including All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF), and Khunnai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi 2 (KHUKAMPAL-2), along with local bodies such as Wangjing Khunou Meira Paibi and Young Star Social Club (YDSC) Wangjing Khunou, staged a protest rally against what they termed as India’s alleged policy to “obliterate” Manipur.
The demonstration was carried out with torch processions and slogans, expressing outrage over the reported incident at Gwaltabi, where personnel of the MAHAR Regiment allegedly stopped a vehicle ferrying journalists and ordered the erasure of the word “Manipur” from a Manipur State Transport bus. Protesters claimed this act symbolised a broader agenda by India to undermine Manipur’s political identity, integrity, and collective dignity.
The groups carried banners with slogans such as “Manipur Muthatpa Yaroi” (Stop Obliterating Manipur) and “Condemn India’s Policy to Obliterate Manipur”. They described the recent actions as part of a systematic approach under India’s national agenda, aiming to erase Manipur’s unique existence and reduce it to a subordinate entity.
Speakers at the protest asserted that the incident was not isolated but a reflection of a deeper policy designed to strip Manipur of its historical and political significance. They warned that such actions could trigger widespread unrest if not addressed.
The united front of organisations declared their firm stand to resist these policies and announced their readiness to intensify agitation until Manipur’s identity is safeguarded. They called on all sections of society to remain vigilant and united in defending the state’s dignity.
