The Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur, organised a special Children’s Day Celebration-cum-Sports Meet on Thursday for children residing in various relief camps across the state. The programme, held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, aimed to bring joy, confidence and emotional support to children displaced by the ongoing crisis.
Speaking at the event, Social Welfare Director Anna Arambam said the initiative was designed to uplift the spirits of children who have been enduring difficult circumstances. She said children are the future of Manipur and stressed the need for society to nurture them with care, encouragement and opportunities.
Social Welfare Secretary Roberth Singh Kshetrimayum attended the event, along with officials and staff of the department. Children from relief camps in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts participated enthusiastically in a range of sports competitions.
Director Anna noted that activities promoting discipline, teamwork, self-confidence and healthy competition are vital for the overall development of young minds. She added that beyond academics, sports and social participation play a key role in shaping confident and responsible citizens.
As part of the programme, Secretary Roberth administered a pledge to all attendees, urging collective commitment towards building a drug-free society, particularly for the welfare of the younger generation.
