Children’s Day 2024 and Awareness & Advocacy Programme organized at Chandel

The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of Chandel, under the Department of Social Welfare, organized a Children’s Day cum Awareness & Advocacy Programme on Child Rights yesterday at the Unique Children Home, Salemthar, Chandel. The event brought together children living in various Children’s Homes across the district.
The programme was divided into two sessions. The first session focused on an Awareness & Advocacy programme regarding the POCSO Act, 2012, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. The resource persons for this session were Babuna Dangmei, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Chandel, and Khaidem Premjit Singh, Legal Probation Officer (LPO), DCPU/Chandel.
The second session marked the celebration of Children’s Day 2024. Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Chandel, was the Chief Guest, while Shankerjit Singh Loitongbam, MPS, Additional SP of Chandel, and Th. Rengthang Wonto, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, Chandel, were the guests of honor. Babuna Dangmei, DCPO, Chandel, presided over the event. The programme featured cultural dances, songs, choreographies, and motivational speeches by dignitaries.
On the occasion, Children’s Day gifts were presented to all Children’s Homes, and a poster campaign highlighting the POCSO Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, was launched by the Deputy Commissioner. The event was attended by around 250 children and staff from various Children’s Homes. The programme concluded with a Children’s Day feast hosted by the District Administration and DCPU, Chandel.
