Chief Minister N. Biren highlights unity and indigenous heritage at Cultural Exchange Festival

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the Manipur Indigenous People’s Cultural Exchange Festival under the theme “Manipur United by Diversity” at Chadong village in Kamjong district. The two-day festival, organized by the Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur, in collaboration with the Tourism Department, celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Manipur’s indigenous communities.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of unity among the state’s indigenous populations, which have coexisted for centuries. “Manipur belongs to its indigenous people, and our forefathers defended this land for more than 2,000 years,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding their heritage. N. Biren Singh highlighted initiatives like the Go to Hills Mission, aimed at researching and preserving historical sites, including the development of the Makhel Heritage Park in Senapati District at a cost of Rs. 6 crore.
The Chief Minister lauded the festival as a crucial platform for cultural exchange and awareness. He urged citizens to study population and demographic records to counteract divisive narratives and work collectively to protect the state’s indigenous identity.
CM N. Biren Singh also detailed progress in the state’s War on Drugs campaign, noting the destruction of 100 acres of poppy plantations, with active support from Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, and civil society. He extended his gratitude to these groups for their efforts to curb drug-related issues, which he called essential for safeguarding the future of Manipur’s youth.
The Chief Minister also praised Chadong village for its sacrifices during the construction of a dam that has provided livelihood opportunities and transformed the area into a scenic tourist destination.
The festival featured a range of cultural performances, including traditional dances and folk songs by various tribes. As part of the program, N. Biren Singh unveiled the “Monuments of Ages” and visited stalls showcasing local crafts and cultural exhibits.
Other dignitaries present included Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, CAF & PD Minister Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, Animal Husbandry Minister Kashim Vashum, and several high-ranking officials and community leaders.
Concluding his speech, N. Biren Singh criticized the opposition Congress party, accusing them of fostering divisions in the state. However, he emphasized that his government is dedicated to unity and development for the welfare of Manipur’s present and future generations.
