The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to take over the case of mob attack on Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte.
MLA Vungzagin Valte sustained serious injury when a hostile mob attacked his team at RIMS road on May 5 afternoon. One of his Private Secretary succumbed to the mob attack and Valte is still in recovery stage.
The mob attack occurred at a location along the RIMS Road under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West District on May 5. On that fateful day, MLA Vungzagin Valte along with his escorts were travelling along the RIMS Road, where an irate mob stopped their vehicle and brutally assaulted Vungzagin Valte.
He received serious injuries in the attack and had undergone medical treatment at a Hospital in Delhi. In connection with the incident, Police had filed a Case and initiated investigation. Reportedly, the case is likely to be handed over to the CBI soon. On the other hand, CBI has so far started probing into 27 cases in connection with the prevailing ethnic clash which broke out in the state on May 3.
CBI is probing into cases such as the Churachandpur district Headquarter Gun Loot case, Kwakta Massacre case, Gang rape of a Meitei woman in Churachandpur, missing of two Students on July 6 , Gun loot from Manipur Police Training Centre(MPTC), Pangei, assault of a woman by a CRPF AC, an incident of Gang rape inside an ATM booth under Porompat Police Station and the ethnic clash among Kuki and Meitei communities on May 3 at Torbung.
In addition, the CBI is investigating a case related to torching of more than 300 houses at Torbung Bangla in the wake of unrest prevailing in Manipur.
