CAU Imphal observes World Population Day

The College of Community Science, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), commemorated World Population Day today. The event was presided over by Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad, Dean of the College, and Dr. Marcellus Momin, Medical Officer at Tura Civil Hospital attended the event as resource person. The program was convened by Dr. Narmada Hidangmayum, Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. Dr. Narmada Hidangmayum welcomed the attendees and mentioned the theme of World Population Day 2024: β€œTo leave no one behind – Count everyone.”
In her address, Dr. Vastrad elucidated current population growth trends and their ramifications, emphasizing technological advancements and the significance of precise census data. Dr. Momin provided a detailed analysis, noting that China and India together account for 36 percent of the global population, with Mumbai, Delhi, and Karnataka among the most densely populated regions in India. He highlighted the challenges posed by overpopulation, including the depletion of natural resources and escalating human-animal conflicts. Dr. Momin accentuated the necessity of raising awareness about the repercussions of overpopulation and its underlying causes. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. K. Victoria Devi, Student Welfare Officer at the College of Community Science, Tura.
