Black oil-like substance spilled in Iril river at Dolaithabi

IT News
Imphal, Feb 7:

In light of concerns about a potential oil spill at Dolaithabi village in Imphal East, SP Imphal East, S Imbomcha Singh, indicated today’s incident of a black substance floating on Iril river might not have involved any oil leakage, although confirmation is still pending. Initially, there were suspicions of an oil spill at the Iril River in Dolaithabi village.
Upon receiving information from the village, the OC Sagolmang Police promptly responded by rushing to the scene and directing the closure of the Dolaithabi dam to halt any further spread of the oil to other parts of the state. Additionally, a team of experts was dispatched to conduct an investigation into the matter.
This event follows a prior report of heavy fuel leakage from Manipur’s Leimakhong Power Station in Imphal West on January 10. This leakage resulted in the discharge spilling into the streams that flow through Kantosabal and Sekmai, areas where residents depend on stream water for their livelihoods.
