BJP Legislators’ Special Meeting postponed

Imphal, Feb 24:

A special meeting of state BJP legislators, scheduled to be held today at the residence of MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor (Keba), was postponed as many legislators declined to attend, citing personal reasons.
A notification signed by MLAs K. Robindro Singh and Kh. Ibomcha Singh stated that the meeting, which was set for 2:00 PM at Tera Sagolband, Imphal West, has been postponed until further notice. The notification mentioned that some legislators were out of station, with some citing medical grounds and others reporting unavoidable circumstances.
The meeting was called to discuss the evolving political situation following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on February 9. However, sources indicate that several BJP MLAs refused to attend for undisclosed reasons. Additionally, sources suggest that the central BJP leadership issued a strict warning against convening such a meeting.
State BJP President A. Sarda Devi had earlier declined to convene a formal meeting of BJP legislators, prompting some lawmakers to take the initiative to organize a gathering aimed at reaching a consensus on forming a new government. However, they were reportedly compelled to abstain from proceeding with the meeting, the source added.
