An awareness programme on “Mental Health and the Need of Day Care Centre” was held today at the office premises of Well Being Home, Lane-4, Sangaiprou. The event was organised by the Centre for Women Development, Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, with the objective of promoting mental health awareness and the importance of establishing dedicated day care centres for mental health support.
The programme was attended by key figures in the field of mental health in the state. Dr. Gojen, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at RIMS, spoke on the growing mental health challenges and the vital role day care centres can play in early intervention and community-based care.
Dr. A. Ranita Devi, State Nodal Officer of the Mental Health Programme under the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur, highlighted the state’s initiatives under the National Mental Health Programme and stressed the need for collaboration between government and civil society to make mental health services more accessible.
Khumukcham Jeevanmala, President of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), also addressed the gathering, underlining the need to integrate mental health services into child welfare systems, especially for vulnerable children and adolescents.
Participants included healthcare workers, social activists, and community representatives, who engaged in open discussions on the stigma surrounding mental health and strategies to improve public awareness and support systems.
The programme concluded with a call for stronger community involvement and policy-level support to establish more day care centres and mental health outreach initiatives across the state.
