Amid recent online controversies, Arambai Tenggol, a socio-cultural organization, has issued a clarification following accusations of cultural provocation during Shirui Lily Festival. The clarification comes in response to allegations made by Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), reportedly influenced by a Facebook page named “Manipur Stylish.”
According to Arambai Tenggol, the misunderstanding stemmed from “inaccurate and misleading information” that misrepresented the nature of the cultural observance. The group emphasized that the event, which included the hoisting of the Salai Taret (Seven Clan) flag, was part of a state-organized cultural celebration recognizing the Shirui Lily as the official state flower of Manipur. They reiterated that the Shirui Lily symbolizes the collective identity of the state and is not representative of any single community.
Arambai Tenggol Unit 58 COBRA stated that their participation reflected their belief in a united Manipur and commitment to preserving the territorial integrity of the state. The group claimed that certain elements are misinterpreting their actions with the intention of creating division between the Meitei and Naga communities.
The press release also addressed the use of traditional attire and slogans during the event. It mentioned that slogans such as “Ema Leibak Na Yaifare, Long Live Manipur, Shirui Ema Na Yaifare” were messages of reverence and love for the land and people of Manipur. The group clarified that these were not provocative but rather expressions of cultural pride and unity.
“We hold deep respect for the indigenous Tangkhul community, their customs, and their sacred hills,” the statement read. “Our intent was never to offend or incite, but only to stand in solidarity with our traditions.”
Arambai Tenggol appealed to the public to view their activities as peaceful cultural expressions, emphasizing that cultural freedom is a protected right under the law and an essential element of democratic societies like Manipur.
