AMWJU demands arrest of assailants who had attempted to assault journalists

Imphal, October 1: All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) today demanded arrest and punishment of those persons who had tried to assault 4 journalists at Nambol Maibamlotpa Chingmang, Sabal Leikai area yesterday evening. In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, President of the AMWJU, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai said that yesterday’s incident at which 4 state journalists who had gone for news coverage were threatened and tried to assault was very unfortunate.

He said the AMWJU will lodge official compliant with the Nambol Police station and will also meet the Home Minister to draw his attention into the matter and to assure safety of the journalists while in duty.

The four journalists identified as A. Jiten of Sangai Express daily, S. Vigyan of Naharolgi Thoudang, Priyo of UNA and Devchandra of Poknapham daily were threatened and tried assault using deadly weapons by the some locals of Nambol Maibamlotpa Mamang Sabal Leikai at around 8 pm when they were trying to collect report regarding the incident at which the OC of Nambol Police Premchand was reported injured.

OC Premchand is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital and Research Institute.
