The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) has expressed disapproval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the state on September 13, stating that the trip is intended for inaugurations and foundation-laying ceremonies to gain political mileage ahead of the upcoming local body elections, rather than addressing the prolonged crisis.
Addressing the media, AMUCO president Nando Luwang said the people of Manipur would have “rolled out the red carpet” had the Prime Minister visited in the immediate aftermath of the violence. Instead, he remarked, the state has been left to endure two years of pain and hardship without meaningful intervention.
He further noted that the Prime Minister’s visit, expected to last only a few hours, reflects a disconnect from the pressing realities of Manipur and is driven by electoral considerations.
Nando Luwang remarked that the people no longer expect anything from the Prime Minister, as he has failed to take any meaningful step in the past two years to resolve the crisis or work towards a lasting solution.
