Imphal, May 3:
President of the All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO), Ph. Nando Luwang, today expressed concern over the attitudes of both the state and central governments, suggesting that their actions indicate an inclination towards fulfilling the demands of the Kuki-Zo narco-terrorist group. Speaking to media personnel on the sidelines of the one-year commemoration of the Manipur crisis under the theme “Revisiting May 3, 2023” at Kwakheithel, Nando highlighted the lack of tangible progress in resolving the issue over the past year.
The Kuki-Zo group has been advocating for a separate state within the territory of India, a demand perceived by the Indian government as speculative. Nando emphasized that the attacks on the Meitei people by armed Kuki-Zo militants aim to establish a separate country called Zalengam. He criticized both the central and state governments for seemingly disregarding the implications of accommodating a separate state for the Kuki-Zo within the Indian constitutional framework, even if it undermines Manipur’s unique history.
Nando further suggested that the conflict in Manipur appears to be instigated by the Indian government, pointing to the lack of intervention by central security forces against armed Kuki militants who have been using sophisticated weapons to target Meitei civilians.
Earlier in the day, members of AMUCO, along with the public, paid tribute to those who have sacrificed for the state during the ongoing conflict by observing a two-minute silence.
