The All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) celebrated its 35th Foundation Day today at G.M. Hall, Imphal. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Ch. Sheelaramani, former Principal of D.M. College of Arts and former Dean of School of Humanities, D.M. University, as the Chief Guest. Ima Soraisam Memcha Leima, President of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba, Manipur, was the Guest of Honour, while Y. Kunjarani, President of AMAWOVA, presided over the event.
Y Kunjarani stated the organization’s objective of building a society free from exploitation and oppression, focusing on women empowerment and participation in societal progress. She called for unity among Manipur’s diverse ethnic communities, stressing that shallow ethnic identities should not hinder the growth of the state. “Women in Manipur have historically played vital roles in various movements, and we will continue to contribute toward the state’s development,” Y Kunjarani stated.
The program also included speeches from special invitees and resource persons, Dr. Dhanabir Laishram, a social scientist, and Dr. Konthoujam Indrakumar Singh, Assistant Professor at G.P. Women’s College, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and light refreshments.
