94th Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang observed at Chingmeirong

The 94th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was observed today at Tingkao Ragwang Kalum Kai, Chingmeirong, under the initiative of Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak Phom, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. The programme was marked by prayers, lighting of candles, offering of holy wine, and the singing of patriotic songs in remembrance of the legendary leader.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Mayor of IMC, Maibon Phaomei, described Haipou Jadonang as a visionary leader who worked tirelessly for religious and social reform and for uniting the Zeliangrong people across different regions. He said Jadonang stood firmly against the unjust taxation imposed by the British on the Zeliangrong community and courageously led his people towards justice and dignity. For this struggle, he was arrested and executed by the colonial authorities.
Maibon Phaomei added that Jadonang’s movement was not only a fight against colonial oppression but also an effort to establish a self-ruled land rooted in indigenous faith, culture and unity. He observed that Jadonang’s sacrifices continue to inspire the present generation and his vision remains highly relevant in the present time.
The programme was also attended by TRCP, AMN Working President Chunkeirung Kamei, Vice President Pouhomlung Kamson, local leaders and representatives of women’s organisations.
