70th Wildlife Week celebrated with cycle rallies

To commemorate the 70th Wildlife Week, the Wildlife Wing of the Forest Department, in collaboration with the Central Forest Division, hosted a cycle rally today aimed at promoting wildlife conservation and environmental awareness. The event saw participation from over 210 cyclists, representing various age groups and organizations, including students from MAMBA, the Department of Zoology, Manipur University, DM College, Team of RIMS Doctors, groups like Doctors on Pedal and Team 195 bpm and Register General, High Court of Manipur and DLOs of Imphal East and Imphal West and Government Officials.
The rally was launched by Longjam Joykumar, Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of Manipur. Its primary goal was to raise awareness about the importance of protecting wildlife and preserving natural habitats. Cyclists traversed an 18- kilometer route, beginning at the Manipur Forest Training School in Luwangshangbam and concluding at the Manipur Zoological Garden in Iroisemba. All the participants took pledge to spread message of conservation of Wildlife.
Meanwhile, Thoubal Forest Division also organized a Cycle Rally today, which started from Waithou Chiru and concluded at the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Thoubal.
The event brought together around 100 cyclists representing various institutions, youth clubs, and schools, all in support of preserving the country’s natural heritage.
Special Secretary of Forest and Environment, Government of Manipur, RK. Amarjit, Range Forest Officer Headquarters, Ningthoujam Deepa, Range Officer Thoubal, Dineschandra Salam, Range Officer Kakching, Laishram Dinesh, and several Beat Officers participated in today’s event.
At Bishnupur, the 70th Wildlife Week Celebration under the theme “Wildlife Conservation through Co-existence,” an inter-village cycle rally focusing on the conservation of Loktak Lake, a Ramsar Site, was organized by the Bishnupur Forest Division, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with Green Brigade Foundation, Toubul. The rally aimed to raise awareness in the villages surrounding Bishnupur.
The cycle rally was flagged off by DFO Bishnupur, Romabai Waikhom, from the office of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Bishnupur. Several key officials, including DFO Bishnupur M. Nilamani, RFO Bishnupur HQ RK Sadananda, and RFO Moirang H. Geetchandra Sharma, participated in the event.
Participants carried placards with messages like “Loktak Lake, a Ramsar Site, Manipur’s Pride” and “Wildlife Conservation through Co-existence.” The rally passed through Tiddim Road, covering inter-village routes from Kha-Potshangbam through Nachou, Khoijuman, Kwasiphai, Toubul, Ngaikhong Siphai, Ngaikhong Khullen, and Ngakchoupokpi, before concluding at the DFO office in Toubul.
