2 AR injured in militants ambush at Chandel district

Two personnel of Assam Rifles sustained minor injury after militants ambush them near Molanghat in Chandel district on August 21. A statement issued by PRO, IGAR(South) said that the AR team were on road patrol when the militant ambush them by firing upon and blasting two IEDs. When the AR troopers retaliated the attack, the militants escaped from the site taking advantage of the rugged terrain and bad weather, added the PRO IGAR (S) statement. It added that the two injured soldiers were promptly evacuated to Military Hospital Leimakhong and are now out of danger. Following the attack, the AR trooper conducted search operation on the site. During the search operation, 8 more IEDs were recovered from the site. The AR statement said that the IEDs were found planted along the route and by recovering those explosive the AR troopers had averted major tragedy that could have caused harm to innocent civilians too. The PRO IGAR (S) statement further added that the UGs have a history of destroying the peace and tranquility everywhere and this was no different. It said while the UGs’ only aim is to perpetrate indiscriminate violence, the Assam Rifles has been at the forefront of providing help to the locals and ensures complete support every time the locals seek help or face any problem. “This was most evident recently in the same area when the local Assam Rifles battalion took the lead in rescuing three civilians from Joumol village that was buried under a landslide on 01 Aug 2015. The consistent support efforts by Assam Rifles even in the face of such constant attacks have shown the true spirit of the force and their will to demoralize the UGs”, the statement added.
