Churachandpur, Jan 28 : A minor of 13 years is studying in class 7 at a private school in Churachandpur was allegedly raped by a distant relative on 26 Jan night inside a vehicle at the Khuga Dam approach road. According to reports, the incident happened while the victim was coming back from Mizoram along with her own brother and other relatives in a Bolero jeep owned by the alleged rapist identified as Vungginmang of Lammual village, a serving Assam Rifles personnel presently stationed at Shillong.
The family reported the incident to Zomi Mothers Association (ZMA) and a case has been registered at Churachandpur police station against the accused who was nabbed by SDPO Thanlon and his team yesterday night. Narrating the course of events, a ZMA representative said the victim and her brother went to visit a relative in Mizoram in the Mahindra Bolero owned by Vungginmang.
Vungginmang’s own son and an uncle were also accompanying them in the vehicle. As they were coming back from Mizoram, Vungginmang dispatched his son and the victim’s younger brother to a nearby village on the Khuga dam road, while he also sent the uncle to fetch alcohol at around 10 pm last night. As they were left alone Vungginmang locked the doors of the vehicle and brutally forced himself on the victim amidst cries of help.
The victim’s father reported the incident to ZMA , and they immediately swung into actioThe ZMA representatives took her to the Churachandpur district hospital for medical examination and also at the facility of Medicin Sans Frontiers (MSF) for tests of any sexually transmitted diseases.
She sustained injuries on her eyebrows while trying to escape from the rapist. The victim was taken to Imphal for forensic tests.An official of ZMA said they will not let any stone unturned to find the culprit and will not go for traditional or customary forces.
