Imphal, Nov. 21:

North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has strongly criticized the recent announcement by the Manipur government about promoting Sanskrit in the state at the cost of other urgent measures which need to be taken regarding educational issues in the state.
In a press statement the NEFIS said that the Manipur Education minister recently announced that Sanskrit would be introduced in the curriculum of select schools and colleges in the state. He also stated that a Sanskrit department would be set up in Manipur University. This singular prominence to promotion of Sanskrit is being done on the lines of new National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
It added that, the NEP 2020, it should be noted, unduly emphasizes the study of Sanskrit at the cost of other Schedule 8 and other languages of India. It can be seen as an attempt by the RSS-BJP government to impose a single identity on the various peoples of India. Furthermore, the reason for the study of Sanskrit mentioned in the NEP 2020, especially highlights the utter insensitivity towards the other languages. It has been stated the there is a unity in most of the languages of India as they have been derived from Sanskrit or the other classical languages. The reasoning of the policy makers is incorrect at least and outrageous at best since the languages in the country are a result of various influences, not just that of standardized classical languages. In fact, most of the standardized forms of modern languages are unfamiliar to the general speaking population of these languages. While the other classical languages are mentioned in the policy to forestall any attack on the intentions of the central government is to impose a unitary identity on all by Sanskritisation, and giving Sanskrit a greater prominence than other languages.
While there is an urgent need for tackling the real issues in education such as the pathetic number of government schools, the bad quality of teaching in such schools and the pervasive inequality among educational institutions in the country, the new NEP among other retrograde measures openly advocates informalization of education both at secondary and higher levels, and thereby intensify inequality in society. The solution to the educational issues being faced is to earmark more funds for public-funded educational sector and build more infrastructures in all the regions and providing generous funding to the regional public-funded educational institutions. However, these measures stand evaded as the central and state governments seek to only make cosmetic changes to the hierarchical and discriminatory educational edifice of the country. NEFIS has been at the forefront of the struggles against NEP 2020, and would continue to strengthen its struggle against retrograde measures being promoted by the central and state governments, the statement said.

Imphal, Nov 20:

Manipur Students’ Association Delhi (MASAD) expressed strong condemnation to the attempt for imposition of Sanskrit language in school and colleges in Manipur.
A press statement issued by the student body term the imposition of Sanskrit as dominant attitude of the RSS oriented government of Manipur. It said that Sanskrit texts are too malicious to be taught to the students of Manipur where not a single word of it is inherited to the mother tongue of the indigenous population.
“ The government exposes its stupidity by trying to impose Sanskrit which is based on hatred, rime, untouchability, sexism, domination, chauvinism, as we know what the upper caste Hindu Brahmins are. MSAD sees it as an attempt to enslave the people of Manipur academically and linguistically in furthering India’s process of colonialism against Manipur”, the statement signed by Kenedy Moirangthem Organization Secretary, Manipur Students’ Association Delhi said.
It added that imposing an alien language upon the indigenous people is completely a sign of colonisation. There are above 30 dialects spoken by the indigenous people of Manipur most of which are about to be extinct lest measures are taken up to continue their existence. No doubt that this government is blind enough to not to see such sight but obedient enough to be acceptable to their colonial master, the Indian empire’s upper caste Hindu Brahmins, the bastards. The recent announcement by a so called Education Minister of the puppet regime submissive to the Brahmins, that Sanskrit subject will be introduced in the curriculum of schools and colleges in the colony is highly condemnable . This regime will be merely another phase of Shantidash Goshai who brought turmoil to the indigenous folks of the 18th century Manipur, if it is allowed to continue the alike venomous activities.
The MASAD appealed to all the forward groups to stand against their strategy of converting Manipuri society into a Hinduised society and systematically enslaving the people in the box of colonialism.
