Assam Rifles organises Medical camps

Units of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) organized medical camps at various locations of Chandel district in Manipur on yesterday.             
Moltuk Battalion conducted a medical camp at Moltuk, Khuntak and Pralon  villages, which are one of the most remote areas of Manipur state. Such initiative by Moltuk Battalion not only enabled patients to be treated close to their home but also helped in increasing awareness about cleanliness, hygiene and healthy living. The medical camp was organised to provide the locals medical attention at their doorsteps and it witnessed huge participation. A total of 32 men, 48 women and 121 children were provided medical check-up and medicines by the Regimental Medical Officer. Such efforts have always been lauded and appreciated by the civilians each time.   
Chandel Battalion organised a free medical camp for the children of ‘Little Drops Life’ Orphanage Home, Hnatham, Chandel district. The Battalion has regularly conducting such camps for the underprivileged children as part of the society to foster the sense of amalgamation between the security forces and local populace. A thorough check up was given by Regimental Medical Officer and Medical staffs of the Chandel Battalion to 26 girls, 28 boys and 06 staffs of the Orphanage. Such relentless efforts of Assam Rifles has increased the bonhomie between security forces and local populace and has resulted in strengthening of relation between locals and the security forces.

In view of upcoming Independence Day and with the objective of reviewing the security situation in Kamjong - Chassad area, Chassad Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) conducted security meet cum interactive session with the prominent personnel of the border villages of Kamjong district.    
The meet was attended by the village Chairmen, members of village youth club, and locals of the respective areas. During the meet, locals were sensitized about the current situation prevailing in the area along with an interactive session on necessary measures to be undertaken for maintaining a strict vigil in the border villages and to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during Independence Day.
More than 25 village chairmen of bordering villages to include Chattrik Khunao, Shamphui, Phange, Bampa Khunou, Pinghang etc shared various issues concerning their villages during the session. The meet concluded with lunch for the attendees. The village chairmen expressed their full fledged support to the Assam Rifles for maintaining peace and vigil in the area. The locals appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles for conduct of such security meetings with village authorities to synergies the efforts and enhance civil-military cooperation.
With the aim of assisting students of economically weaker section and motivating them to continue their studies, Shangshak Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) distributed stationary items to the students of Government Primary School at TM Kasom. Stationary items were distributed under the theme “Learn with Happiness”. School children and school staff conveyed their heartfelt gratitude for the support being rendered by Assam Rifles towards the overall development and progress of the school. The event was conducted as part of activities planned as precursor to Independence Day.

Indian shuttlers finished their campaign on a high with a gold and two silver medals at the BWF World Senior Badminton Championships 2019 in Katowice, Poland on Sunday. While Vijay Lancy Mascarenhas and Ajeet Hari Dass won Gold in 40plus Men’s Doubles category, Manjusha Sudhir Sahasrabudhe and the pair of Prabhu Naik Naidu Kona and Suzanne Venglet settled for silver in 55 Plus women’s singles and 50 Plus mixed doubles categories respectively.
Former national level players, Mascarenhas and Dass made a superb comeback in their 19-21, 21-17, 21-19 upset win over the 3/4th seeds Esben B. Kaempegaard and Morten Eilby Rasmussen of Denmark in the summit clash.
Manjusha Sudhir Sahasrabudhe made a bright start to her final against the top seed Zhou Xin of Hong Kong but went down fighting 21-14, 13-21, 13-21 in 37 minutes. Kona and Venglet’s superb run came to an end at the hands of English top seeds Rajeev Bagga and Elizabeth Austin, 13-21, 14-21.
Mascarenhas and Dass dedicated their medal to acclaimed coach Sudhakar Reddy, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest while the tournament was in progress. “Coming back from a game down to win the title against a seeded pair gives us immense satisfaction. We would like to dedicate this medal to Shri Sudhakar Reddy, who was not just a celebrated coach but also an inspiration to us all,” said Mascarenhas.
More than 1500 players from 56 countries had participated in 45 categories in this prestigious tournament in different age groups. The next edition of this tournament will be held in Spain after a couple of years.
