Imphal, July 11: Co-Ordination Committee of Colleges Students’ Union Manipur ( COCOSUM) today burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Education Minister Okendro an Education Commissioner Vaiphei at Keishamthong area. Speaking to media persons, convernor of the students’ body said that the effigies were burnt as a part of the agitation for appointment of regular principals for the colleges of the state besides a regular Director. He said the student body had staged various democratic form of protest as well as submitted various memorandums to the concern minister regarding the matter, however, as no positive reply has been given by the authority , the student body was left with no choice but to intensify the agitation, he said.

Imphal, July 11: People of all the walks of life today paid tributes to late Thangjam Manorama on the 16th commemoration day which was organised by Thangjam Manorama Memorial Charitable Trust today near her residence at Bamon Kampu, Imphal. Various civil organisations’ leader and student bodies also came to pay tributes to the departed soul who was brutally raped and murdered by troopers of 17 Assam Riffles.Attending the commemoration day as President, Thounaojam Iboyaima, President, Irabot Foundation Manipur said that the Indian government doesn’t listen to the issues of Manipur even though many have been killed and suffered due to AFSPA. The reason for the Indian government to not address the issues of Manipur, be it AFSPA or ILP, is because Manipur is not the true land of India and they do not treat the people of the state as their own hence they are killing many of us brutally, said Iboyaima.Secretary, Thangjam Manorama Memorial Charitable Trust, K. Muhindro said that even though an enquiry commission has been formed by a retired Judge, the report cannot be flashed to the public. He further said the enquiry report must be flashed to the public and give proper punishment to the armies involved in the case.

Imphal, July 11: Manipur Economic Association observed World Population Day with the theme ‘invest in young people today, to ensure a bright future for Manipur.’ Dr. M. Hemanta Meitei, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Manipur University, gave a speech on ‘Estimating Migrants: Methodological issues.’ Hemanta also presented the figures of migrants living in Manipur from other states according to the census report provided by the government of India; in the year 2001 the figure stood at 54,789 and in 2011 the figure reached 4,44,971, highlighting the rate of increase of migrants in the state during the last ten years. Attending the observation day as Chief Guest, Iboton Singh, Retired Professor, Economics Department, Manipur University said the issue of migration will exist and no one can stop them from coming in the state as they have the freedom to go in every parts of the country according to the fundamental law of India. The reason for their migration in the state is because of work purpose and if the indigenous people do their profession, be it small or big, there won’t be a reason for them to enter the state, added Iboton. He further appealed to all the younger generations not to be choosy in any work as no work is big or small. E. Bijoykumar, President of Manipur Economic Association, Professor, Dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University attending the function as President said the Association aims to organise monthly extensive lectures on the subject matter to develop a quality debate among all including the students and civil organisations. Meanwhile, District Health Society,Thoubal also observed the  “World Population Day-2014” with the inauguration of “District Family Health Mela” at  Thoubal District Hospital to be held till the 24th July 2014.The Population Fortnight with the theme: Planned Family,Happiness Forever Family Health Mela provides temporary Family Planning Methods, Oral pills, Cu-T, Condoms etc. free of cost to the public along with permanent methods of family planning including Tubectomy, Vasectomy and NSV were also made available to the public free of cost. Dr. Md. Salamatoulah, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Thoubal, S. Saratkumar, CMO District Hospital Thoubal and N. Jayantakumar, District Family Welfare Officer, Thoubal were the Chief Guest, President and Guest of honour respectively at the function. On the other hand, observance of World Population Day-2014 kicked off with the population stabilization event from today to 24July2014 held at Synod Hall, I B Road, Lamka Churachandpur. During the inauguration of population forthnight with PK Jha IAS, DC Churachandpur as the Chief Guest, a slide show on CU-T 380A insertion was presented by Dr. Binakumari, MO PPC, and World Population Day-2014 keynote address was given by Dr.Thangchinkhup CMO, Churachandpur. During the observance, DLOs, Medical Officers, nurses under CMO and ASHAs of Lamka town area, DACO and staff attended the program. PK Jha informed the gathering that United Nations Secretary Ban ki Moon’s remarks on World Population Day-2014 may be quoted that today the world has the largest generation of youth in history with about 1.8 billion young people, mostly in a developing countries, with enormous potential to tackle the major challenges of humanity. But too many are denied their rightful opportunities to get education, find decent work, and participate in the political life of their societies. World population is an opportunity to renew our commitment to help young people unleash progress across the society, he added.

Imphal, July 10: Following tremendous political pressure from some MLAs and Ministers, the state Home Ministry is likely to institute another committee to relook into the matter at which 87 selected SI and Jemandar were reportedly placed withheld after one man commission led by T. Pachua, IPS, ADGP (Home Guard) had conducted an enquiry. The enquiry was instituted by the state government after alleged report of misappropriation in the selection process.All together 440 candidates were selected for recruitment to Sub inspector and Jemandar to the state Police force in 2010. Earlier the State Home department had notified for recruitment of 347 Sub inspector and Jemandar however, for reason best known the then home department authority had selected 440 candidate. However, as there were report of massive misappropriation to the selection process the Home Department has instituted a one man enquiry commission to look into the matter under T. Pachua, IPS, ADGP (Home Guard). And on July 10, as according to the report of the enquiry commission Additional; Secretary of the state Home Department, Bobby Waikhom had intimated the DGP Manipur to withhold the 87 selected candidates.However, as the state home department is receiving tremendous pressure from some MLAs and Ministers for cancellation of the enquiry report, the Home Ministry has been reportedly directed to institute another enquiry committee to look into the matter.Mention may be made that Imphal Times had break the news story about the withheld of the 87 selected SI and Jemandar in its July 4 issue.
