WAD appeals government to establish working group to monitor crime against women

Women Action for Development (WAD) drew the attention of the government to discuss the issue of Crime against Women and Children in the present ongoing Assembly session of the state.
A statement said that as per records from daily news report, there are 14 cases of crimes against women since the beginning of 2021 which includes 3 rape, suicide 1, suspicious death 3, murder 1 etc. While in the year 2020 there were 190 cases of crime against women and children recorded in the local newspaper, amongst these 47 cases of death of women were recorded in the state with different forms violence.
It said many efforts have been made by various CSOs of the state along with the various governmental institutions to curb the same, however, the efforts remained unsuccessful. With regard to the same it is high time to call all the members of the legislative assembly to discuss and establish an appropriate mechanism or to establish a Working Group having the representatives from the CSOs, Women and Child Experts, members of the Legislative Assembly of Manipur, Legal experts etc to monitor and make an urgent intervention to curb the crime against women and children in the state.
WAD appealed all the members of the legislative assembly to discuss seriously on the budget allocated to deal with the crime against women and children.
