Shuffling hope

The push for reshuffling of ministerial posts within the elected members of the legislation is gathering strength, and the government is likely give in to the increasing pressures to affect the long standing demand. The Chief Minister is understandably caught in an unenviable position, even when the elected representatives have unanimously expressed their collective undertaking of respecting the decision of the Chief Minister. The development certainly presents a plethora of possibilities, some good, while a lot of worrying. This imminent change also presents the Chief Minister, and to no small extent, his Deputy, with an opportunity to bring those who are receptive to their ideas and aspirations within their inner circle. This is a big test for the Government, not only in terms of finding the right men for the tasks at hand, but also for redemption- to build on the positive works the present Government have so far managed to accomplish, although the level of efficiency and quantity of the works needs to be discussed further. And during all these expectant wait, the wishes and opinions of the public is lost in the melee, presumably with the implicit understanding that the mandate has been granted once and for all, at least for half a decade during which the acts and opinions of the representatives are the only things that matters. There has been a perceptibly widening gulf between the public and those sworn to serve them which has resulted in so many unrest and agitations with people pouring out into the streets to demonstrate and demand on various issues. While the question of validity and feasibility of such demands stills remains to be debated, it clearly shows the deteriorating channel of communication between the public and the powers that be in the state which needs to be addressed immediately. This suggestion does not, in any way, imply mammoth expenditures or herculean undertakings, but rather a display of commitment and proactive approach to the few projects taken up for the betterment of the public and the state. At present, the one thing that greatly concerns the general public is the possibility of the next set of Ministers and lawmakers abandoning the incomprehensible development projects instead of straightening things out, and taking up overambitious ones just to exert their one-upmanship. The much harried public, who, for long, has been at the receiving end of every ill-conceived and ignorant political decisions, does not need, nor demand a miracle. A transparent, effective, assertive and committed government who does not shy away from carrying out its duties, however unpopular or harsh they may seem to be, one which does not hesitate to own up its mistakes and makes earnest efforts to address them, but most importantly, a Government that persistently makes efforts to be with the public in its collective aspirations and needs is the one the people of this state is praying and fervently hoping for.
