Sad songs from RIMS, CM needs to act

Not everything is going well to the administration of RIMS. The Institution has been in the news for quite a long time not for any good reason. Corruption, nepotism and favouritism have been ruining the good name of this institution. Change of guard to the administrators too fails to bring any good changes to this premier institute as the system has failed to choose the right person who cannot be influenced by the whims of vested interested personalities. The crumbling of this institute does not benefit to anybody except to those who wanted to uproot this institute from the soil of this state.
It is at this moment, that we in the Imphal Times have reason to believe that – “some people, who has the potentials of influencing the government are deliberately attempting to shift his institution to other state”. We believe it; because there has been lot of incidents at which doctors and the professors serving here had threatened to tender mass resignation due to threats from anti social elements. That happened about a decade ago. Later, staged was unacceptable. The institute was always in the centre stage of media of the state. Allegations of doctors’ negligence, dead of patients (mostly in delivery case), doctors of the hospital practicing at private hospitals even after enjoying the non teaching allowances, allegations for back door appointments, administrators turning suppliers or contractors, misappropriation of funds, etc., etc., were most popular stories heard from the side of RIMS.
Only recently, that is during the month of August last year, the allegations for misused of fund came to the notice of the Union Government machineries and the Central Bureau of Investigation finally acted resulting to the suspension of the then Director. The suspension of a top administrator of RIMS was perhaps the first in the history of this Institute.
The promises for upgradation of the Institution to deem university and opening of Dental College/Nursing College appeared to be just a dream that will never come true as there is no dearth for fraudulent activities in this institution by some vested interested personality.
Doctors are considered as semi god as the profession they are taking up is a noble one, which is completely free from politics. But the believed is slowly vanishing as things presently happening at this institute is totally different from what it actually should be.
The news carried by Imphal Times in yesterday issue is very serious. We have highlighted that each month a total Rupees 144 crore are spending for salaries of the total employees. And another similar amount is sanctioned for taking up developmental works. The amount was increase in view of the demands for maintenance of the Institute. Now if the Dental College and the Nursing College started functioning then the amount for maintenance will automatically increase besides providing additional jobs to more qualified people.
As the authority has failed to start even the construction work of the Dental College even after having the fund, it is likely that the Dental Council of India might disapprove the college, which is a great lost to the Institute as well as to the people of the state.
As it also matters about the economy of the state, the present government of the state led by Okram Ibobi Singh need to intervene. RIMS is a Central Institute no doubt, But the Chief Minister is the vice president of the Governing body of this RIMS. It is our humble request to the Chief Minister of Manipur to act in time before we lost this premier Institute.
