Emergence of new media free from interference

The changing face of today’s media houses has put the profession of journalism to the level of a mere slave. The freedom of professional journalists has been always curtailed and made compulsory to report events that are of the interest of the media houses. Exclusive reports that are filed by putting heavy labor are often landed in the dustbin if the report hurts the policy of media houses. While the editors are compelled to read the mind of the owners of the media houses to do the needful, the reporters were assigned to a duty that will satisfy the owner, which is running the media houses.
There are people in this profession who neither want to follow the whims of the owner of the media houses, considering the kind of service as people’s oriented. Media today – have provided maximum space or time slot for advertisement. Some media have just around 40 % of the space for reporting exact news leaving the rest for either income-generating or for promotional reporting which is interested to them.
People in the profession who don’t agree with the present trends started their own using channel which they can afford with minimum investment. Thanks to the internet, many professionals who are victims of the newly evolve slave culture, now started creating their own platforms to express the views as well as reporting news of public interest, by creating websites or using social media like Facebook, Twitter among others.
But for those professional journalists, – except for reporting events of public importance, they don’t have an interest in organizing revenue or creating a big market. For some who have already earned their name, it takes no time to reach out to people who are even more than the readers of the traditional media. However, generating income for running the media is also a much and most time media houses run by professional journalist often fails when it comes to generating income to run the media houses.
Journalists like Karan Thapar, Surjit Nair, Sekhar Gupta, etc. have now started a news portal and today readers started getting exact news, criticisms, etc. In the case of Manipur too Pradip Phanjoubam , the journalist who has brought a change in the reporting style along with RK Bobichand have started a news portal to work independently.
But one thing matters is the support of the public as these journalists too have a family to feed and live to live, which all depends on little contribution. Readers or audiences of the news portal should understand how hard it would have been hadn’t they get some fees even though these journalists don’t bother about it.
The new media should be free from the dictate of any powerful people and that can only be possible if the audience supports these independent journalists.
