It was by accident that i happened to get the opportunity of knowing chief minister N. Biren singh, when he was the editor of the then most critically acclaimed Manipuri vernacular daily- Naharol Thoudang.
It was not that, I work in his media home, but it was by destiny that I work closely with almost all staffs of the newspaper that he edited.
Those days I work for a monthly English news journal “The East Time” which had stopped publication these days. The office that I joined for the first time when I was pursuing law degree at LMS law college Imphal was located just opposite to Naharolgi Thoudang News Paper office at Tiddim Road, which was just around half a kilometer towards Imphal Airport from Keishampat junction. Another monthly Manipuri journal “ Eikhoigi Yawol” edited by Iboyaima Khuman also share their office at the same building that our office occupied.
Publisher of Imphal Times daily newspaper that I am working presently as the editor was the editor cum publisher of the monthly journal Eikhoigi Yawol.
As the then editor of the “East Time” monthly journal- Mc Dara happened to be a brother -in law of Iboyaima Khuman. So, we staffs of both the journal had good relations and had no problem in sharing news story as Eikhoigi Yawol published in Manipuri language while the East Time was published in English language.
By the time, Naharol Thoudang daily newspaper has started producing multicolored newspaper with multiple pages. The newspaper being a daily publication ‘we’ in the monthly publication visited and try to mix with the staffs of Naharolgi Thoudang. As almost all staffs of the daily newspaper are friendly and supportive, we (including me) treated like their staffs. As for me I was even provided a press card as reporter, even though I work for a monthly journal.
That was how, I heard some few memories of N. Biren singh who finally become the chief minister of Manipur.
