State police has done one appreciating job by cleaning one of the dirtiest areas known for the anti social and immoral activities in Imphal called the Namthilok in Imphal ahead of the Sangai festival. The place is famous for flesh trade and a known market for all sorts of intoxicants including drugs, heroines and illegal alcohol. Media reports had highlighted time and again about the kinds of immoral activities being underway at the place however, no authority had ever taken up effective measures to clean the area. The kind of raid conducted yesterday by a team of Imphal West police is perhaps one of the best jobs and deserves appreciation from all sections of the community. But why only yesterday? Why they have been turning blind eyes for so long.Everybody knows that those picked up yesterday will be released after a couple of days as the law of the land do not permit to detain them for long or disallow them from visiting the area. It is a matter of common sense that those picked up yesterday will soon gather at the same place and continue the same kind of illegal, immoral activities as soon as they are released. Reason – those required intoxicants are abundantly available in the area and none of the king pin responsible for supplying the intoxicants has been arrested so far.The North AOC area of Imphal has now become a face of Imphal to the foreign or domestic tourists visiting the state. Most of the luxury hotels including the Classic hotel are located in and around the place. Beside, just opposite to the place locates the memorials of the 18 martyrs who had given their lives in the historic massive uprising for protection of the territorial integrity of the erstwhile kingdom. Not only these, the famous Khuman Lampak Sport Stadium is also located just a few minute walk from the area. Everyone knows that these few place are often visited by the tourists and seeing the dirty place in the middle of it is a shame for the people of the state. It is now time the state government take the matter seriously and acted spontaneously to take up some effective measures to keep the area clean.
