Amidst solemn ceremonies and tributes, Manipur paid homage to the valour and sacrifice of those who fought in the historic Khongjom War. The commemoration took place at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex, Khebaching, Thoubal, drawing dignitaries and citizens alike to remember the significance of the day.
Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh led the proceedings as the Chief Guest and President respectively. Alongside ministers, MLAs, and distinguished guests, they laid floral wreaths at the Khongjom War Memorial, honouring the memory of those who gave their lives for their land.
The ceremony unfolded with traditional military honours, including a guard of honour, a general salute, and the poignant sounding of the last post. A moment of silence, deep and reflective, followed by ceremonial gestures of respect, marked the gravity of the occasion.
Paying tribute to the revered Paona Brajabashi Statue, dignitaries offered floral tributes, accompanied by a solemn gun salute. Tarpon, a symbol of reverence, was offered at the Khongjom River, further underscoring the solemnity of the event.
Artistic expressions added a cultural dimension to the commemoration, with performances of Sankirtan by the Manipur State Kala Akademi artists. Dignitaries joined in homage to these performances, recognizing the profound cultural heritage intertwined with the history of the Khongjom War.
The National Anthem, performed by the M.R. Band unit, resonated across the memorial grounds, symbolizing unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
The observance drew a diverse array of attendees, including ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, DGP Rajiv Singh, and administrative secretaries. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to honoring the legacy of the Khongjom War and its enduring significance in Manipur’s history.
