Amit Shah landed in Imphal today, injected fresh momentum into the BJP’s campaign, setting the stage for a fiercely contested battle for power in Manipur. His flight landed at Imphal around 2 pm, and Shah wasted no time in engaging with the public, swiftly making his way to the eagerly awaited rally venue at Hapta Kangjeibung at 2:50 pm. Speculations arose that on his way, he met with CM N Biren Singh.
In his address to the audience, Shah framed the upcoming election not as a mere contest between political parties but as a decisive battle between “those striving to preserve Manipur’s unity and those seeking to sow discord and division.
“There is no one who can break Manipur,” declared Amit Shah.
Amit Shah’s speech also delved into historical grievances, as he accused the Congress party of neglecting the legacy of Maharaja Kulachandra, a revered figure in Manipur’s history. In contrast, Shah lauded the BJP’s homage to the Maharaja by naming Mount Manipur in the Andaman Islands after him—a gesture aimed at rectifying perceived injustices and honoring Manipur’s royal heritage.
Highlighting the BJP’s track record of governance, Shah highlights the successful negotiation of more than 10 peace agreements between militants and the government, resulting in the surrender of 9000 armed insurgents—a testament to the party’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region.
Addressing contentious issues such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Shah affirmed the BJP’s efforts to reduce its implementation in Manipur, signaling a shift towards a more nuanced approach to security in the state.
Taking a dig at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks disparaging small states, Shah asserted the significance of these regions, labeling them as the soul of India and deserving of equal attention and development. In a scathing indictment of the Congress party’s governance, Shah blamed the Naga-Kuki, Pangal-Meitei, and Kuki-Paite conflicts on Congress rule. He accused the party of exacerbating divisions and fueling unrest during its tenure.
Addressing the ongoing conflict in Manipur, Shah expressed confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s ability to bring peace to the region. He hinted at a resolution through dialogue between the communities involved, with a caveat that Manipur’s territorial integrity would be preserved. There will be discussions with the affected people.
Furthermore, Shah lauded the Modi government’s proactive measures to address security challenges, including the suspension of the Free Movement Regime and the initiation of border fencing projects aimed at curbing illegal immigration—an issue he attributed to past political negligence.
