The People’s Reformation Party (PRP), a new political outfit, was formally launched in Manipur today with an announcement to contest the 2027 Assembly election, focusing on peace, public order, youth participation and reforms in public life.
PRP president Andy Mangsatabam said the party was registered by the Election Commission of India on August 10, 2026, following an application submitted in 2024. He said the party was formed under the theme “Peace, Progress and Prosperity” to pursue what he described as local political solutions to issues confronting the state.
Andy Mangsatabam said the prolonged crisis had prompted the formation of a political platform independent of a party high command outside Manipur. He said elected representatives should play a greater role in addressing the crisis.
The party plans to contest 40 of the 60 Assembly constituencies in 2027, although it has not announced candidates. Andy Mangsatabam said preference would be given to young candidates without criminal records, with prospective nominees subject to due diligence and suitability checks.
The PRP manifesto outlines 13 broad areas, including peace and public order, territorial integrity, a “gun-free Manipur”, IDP welfare and human security.
The party also said it would focus on financial transparency, accountability in governance and greater youth engagement through digital platforms.
The Election Commission currently categorises the PRP as a Registered Unrecognised Political Party (RUPP).
